Fire Eel
Remarks: Fire Eels are native to Southeast Asia where they live in sluggish waters with plenty of silt and sand to hide in. These fish grow to nearly 3 feet long and should not be housed in anything smaller than 200 gallons long-term, though 55 gallons and higher are okay for growing them up. They are predatory by nature and will eat anything they can catch, including small tetras, cichlids, etc.
They are very popular due to their dark black bodies with orange and red striations. Fire Eels are very personable and you can train them to feed from your fingers, and they will learn to recognize their aquarists and greet them eagerly. When spooked, you may see them dart into the sand and poke only their face out.
 Due to how large this species gets and there being few aquarists that have tanks large enough to house them, we no longer carry this species.
